Irish 2,000 Guineas Results
Aidan O’Brien’s Henrythenavigator achieved an impressive double at Curragh on Saturday as he claimed his second Guineas title in a month by winning the Irish 2,000 Guineas.
As expected, the race rapidly developed into a tussle for first place between English 2,000 Guineas winner Henrythenavigator and market favourite New Approach.
In contrast to the tight finish at Newmarket, which saw Henrythenavigator win by a nose, the 2,000 Guineas saw Henrythenavigator score a more substantial win as he took the race by a length and three quarters.
Henrythenavigator’s achievements this month have seen him promoted to favourite in the Epsom Derby betting markets, with some bookmakers pricing him as low as 4/1 to take England’s most prestigious Classic.
“The Derby is very much in the picture,” confirmed O’Brien. “He is fit and well and handles all of the things he’ll have to. And he has that devastating turn of foot, and that is what makes good horses special. But then he is just a very classy horse. He has relaxed, quickened and done everything right.”
New Approach is also entered at Epsom, but is unlikely to run at the event and will most likely be preferred for a run in the Irish Derby.
