Irish 2,000 Guineas runners head to Curragh
A host of 2,000 Guineas runners will be making their way to Curragh racecourse in Ireland this weekend to renew hostilities at the 2008 Irish 2,000 Guineas.
The race is shaping up as a battle between the winner of the English 2,000 Guineas, Henrythenavigator, and 2,000 Guineas runner-up New Approach. New Approach is priced as favourite in the betting markets at odds of 11/8, while Henrythenavigator is priced 7/4 to achieve a rare 2,000 Guineas double.
Godolphin will also be fielding their runners at the Irish 2,000 Guineas, and are considering entering Ibn Khaldun into the race after his disappointing performance at Newmarket on the 3rd of May. Rio De La Plata is likely to be Godolphin’s other entry in the race.
Aidan O’Brien will not be missing out on the fixture in his home country, and is set to enter only a single runner into the race - Jupiter Pluvius. Jupiter Pluvius is priced third in the Irish 2,000 Guineas betting markets at odds of 8/1.
At 16/1 with William Hill, Nownownow is an interesting pick for punters wanting to place money on a promising outsider. The US born thoroughbred achieved a notable victory in the Juvenile Turf at the Breeder’s Cup last year and is presently being trained by David Wachman in Tipperary.
